Time for some overreactions. It's just one game, but the Toronto Raptors are making the NBA Finals. The Raptors' early season showdown against the Boston Celtics on Friday night showed they are a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference.

The arrivals of superstar forward Kawhi Leonard and shooting guard Danny Green have, so far, paid dividends for the Raptors. They were big reasons why they pulled off the 113-101 home win against the Celtics.

The win definitely turned heads toward Toronto, which are still getting acclimated with a new head coach in Nick Nurse. With the team also integrating a new system and new pieces, many believed that the Raptors would take a while to get up-to-speed in playing together. But it seems like they are way ahead of the curve.

Kawhi Leonard, Raptors

So far, the transition for Leonard and Green has been relatively smooth as they seem to be meshing well with Kyle Lowry, Serge Ibaka, and the rest of this Raptors squad, which finished atop the East standings last season.

The Raptors swung for the fences this off-season when they dealt arguably their best player in franchise history, DeMar Derozan, along with Jakob Poeltl to the Spurs for Leonard and Green. Without question, Leonard was the coveted piece of the package. But Green is low-key just as important.

As good as Derozan was for the Raptors, Leonard is definitely an upgrade over him. When healthy, he is the best two-way player in the NBA. His resume shows it too. He has made the All-NBA First Team twice and has two Defensive Player of the Year awards attached to his name.

Green, on the other hand, gives the Raptors a legitimate 3-and-D option on the wings. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2017.

Last season, former head coach Dwane Casey had to choose between offense with either Fred VanVleet or C.J. Miles, or defense with O.G. Anunoby to close out games. Luckily for new coach Nick Nurse, he gets both in one player as Green is a knock-down three-point specialist, as well as a great on-ball defender.

Before the deal, the Raptors line up has definitely been missing some kind of edge after bowing out of the Eastern Conference playoffs in embarrassing fashion for two years running now. With Green and Leonard on-board, they are bringing in a defensive acumen that is arguably second to none in the league.

There was one particular play where these two demonstrated why their importance on this team. In the final minutes of the game, as the Celtics were trying make a last ditch effort to come back, super sophomore Jayson Tatum drove down the lane for a fast break finish over Kyle Lowry. Who was there to stop him? The former Spurs of course, who came from behind to deliver a double chase down swat on Tatum's attempt.

These are the kinds of plays that win games. Heck, these are plays that win series and championships. Remember LeBron James' famous chase down block on Andre Iguodala in the 2016 NBA Finals? Just like that.

This is what they are ultimately bringing to the table for the Raptors: a winning attitude. It's no secret that they inherited this after spending time with a winning coach like Gregg Popovich. The two former Spurs are bringing a championship mentality to a team that badly needs one. This play just proves that.

Yes, this is just based on a one game sample. But it's an important one because this was against a Celtics team who was just one win away from the NBA Finals, despite missing their two best players in Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward.

Leonard's presence on the court just gives the Raptors a whole new dynamic on both ends of the floor, something that Derozan was never able to give them. Obviously, when healthy, he is one of the top-5 players in the league. Green, on the other hand, adds to the Raptors defensive versatility, and also gives them an option on offense with his spot-up three-point shooting.

It will be interesting to see how the season unfolds for the Raptors. The chemistry is still developing, and will get better as the season progresses. If they continue to demonstrate the unity they showed in the Celtics game, they might just be the ones standing across the Golden State Warriors in June.
