Oklahoma City Thunder guard Alex Abrines has told NewsOK that he no longer feels any pain in his right knee, which he hyperextended while playing for Spain in EuroBasket this summer. However, he still hasn’t been completely cleared by the team after tests revealed a bone bruise.

“I didn’t feel pain at all after the first day,” he said Wednesday during a Thunder Cares visit to the Oklahoma City Zoo. “But the MRI said I had a bone bruise, so that’s what keeps me (off) of the court.”

Even with Thunder training camp set to begin next week, Abrines says he will likely continue being limited by the team as a precaution until the bone bruise completely heals.

Alex Abrines averaged six points and 1.3 rebounds in 68 games during his rookie campaign for the Thunder last season. He also shot 38 percent on 3-pointers, which was crucial for a Thunder team that lacked enough decent shooters to effectively space the floor.

If Abrines can continue to improve other aspects of his game and keep shooting at an impressive rate, he should have a key role to play on the team this season. But they need him to be fully healthy, which is why it's understandable for the Thunder to be extra cautious in terms of bringing him back into the fold.
