The last time Oklahoma City Thunder forward Andre Roberson played in an NBA game was on Jan. 27, 2018. The defensive-minded swingman has been going through nearly two years of rehab and setbacks as he continues to recover from a ruptured left patellar tendon he suffered in that January game against the Detroit Pistons.

Recently, Roberson's father, John, spoke about his son's status and provided an update on his condition, via Erik Horne of The Oklahoman:

“He feels really good,” John said. “When you get injured, it takes a toll on you mentally because you’re constantly doubting yourself and that things are going to hold up mentally. I think that’s the biggest hurdle he’s had to get over.

The past two years have been extremely tough for the 27-year-old. Roberson suffered the injury as he went up for an alley-oop. A wrong take-off eventually ruptured his already ailing patellar tendon, consequently ruling him out for the rest of the season.

The 6-foot-7 forward had his sights set on returning for the 2018-19 season. However, an additional procedure on the same knee in October forced him to sit out another projected two months.

In November, as he went through more intensive rehab, Roberson suffered another setback: an avulsion fracture that consequently ruled him out again for an extended period.

Eventually, Roberson never saw the court for the entire 2018-19 season. Now, Roberson is hopeful he can finally return by opening night. His father noted in the interview that how his son feels in training camp will give a good indication on his status for the start of the season.

There's no doubt that Roberson is itching to see the floor once again this October.
