It has been over two years since we last saw Oklahoma City Thunder swingman Andre Roberson take the floor. He has since been recovering from a major knee injury, which has turned out to be a lot more serious than initially anticipated.

Nevertheless, Roberson has remained positive throughout the ordeal, and just recently, the 28-year-old has declared that he is close to his much-anticipated return.

“I’m kinda past the rehab stage,” Roberson explained, via Moke Hamilton of Thunder Wire. “I’m almost to the point where — I should be playing, honestly. But I’m still taking it a day at a time until I get back into our medical staff’s hands and get reevaluated. Just staying patient through it all and knowing that the light is right there at the end of the tunnel…

It’s definitely been a long journey and it’s coming to an end.”

That's great news to hear coming from Roberson himself, as it appears that he has finally overcome the many hurdles brought about by this career-threatening injury. Perhaps the extended season supension due to the coronavirus pandemic has given him more time to recover and get himself ready to return.

It will be interesting to see, however, how the Thunder will treat Roberson's current situation. A player's self-assessment does not always align with that of his team's front office, with the latter always erring on the side of caution.

Roberson's current deal with the Thunder will run out by the end of the season, and he is set to become a free agent this summer. Surely, this fact has played a role in his incessant desire to make his comeback as soon as possible.
