The Oklahoma City Thunder will have a huge boost ahead of their matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday. It has been reported that their defensive specialist, Andre Roberson, will return to action on the night and will take on his usual starting role for the team, according to Royce Young of ESPN.

The 26-year-old Colorado product has missed the Thunder’s last eight games due to left knee tendinitis. He last played back in December 29, and has since been given time to heal and return to 100 percent. Roberson is best known for the way he plays defense and is often given the unenviable task to guard the opponents’ best player at the wing spot. His ability to play and defend multiple positions fits well with the system head coach Billy Donovan has in place, and his familiarity with it will come in handy for them.

Through 34 games so far this season, Roberson is averaging 5.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 26.9 minutes per game. Now that he is slated to return to action, he will add more depth to the team’s rotation at the shooting guard and small forward positions, allowing the coaching staff to field in more combinations during games.

It remains to be seen if Roberson will show any signs of being hampered by his injury or not. Should he move well and play like he did before getting hurt, he may take on his usual amount of playing time and not be placed on any minutes restriction.
