Despite the early optimism from the Oklahoma City Thunder to start the 2017-18 NBA season, their performance continues to fluctuate. The Thunder are now 12-14 entering a tough two-game stretch starting with the surprising Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.

Even superstar forward Carmelo Anthony has been vocal about his recent shooting woes. However, he is well aware that Oklahoma City's struggles can be attributed to their overall performance, according to ESPN's Royce Young:

“We know what we want to do, how we want to play and when we stick to that script, we’re a hell of a team to beat,” Anthony said. “We put a lot of fear in teams when we play the right way. When we're executing what we have to execute offensively and defensively, we show why we're one of the top teams out there. And then there's spurts where we don't do that and we show some kind of crack in our armor.”

It was well-established prior to the season that the Thunder had more than enough star power to keep up with any of the elite teams in the league. They have even followed up on that notion with big wins over the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, and Minnesota Timberwolves. However, they have been countered by embarrassing losses to the lowly Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks.

It is that kind of inconsistency that has Oklahoma City on the outside looking in while sitting under. 500. Fortunately, the Thunder still have plenty of time to get their act together before the playoffs roll around — if they can make it until then.
