The Oklahoma City Thunder's discussions to move nine-time All-Star point guard Chris Paul onto a new destination are parked and Paul is expected to start the 2019-20 season with the Thunder.

The Thunder acquired Paul from the Houston Rockets in the blockbuster Russell Westbrook trade.

As we all know, Chris Paul arguably has the worst contract in the NBA. He’ll make $38,506,482 next season, $41,358,814 in 2020-21 and has a player option worth $44,211,146 for the 2021-22 season. Paul and the Thunder likely won’t agree to a buyout, as CP3 would have to give up a lot of money for that to happen.

OKC acquired Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from the Los Angeles Clippers in the Paul George trade. The Thunder could have Paul mentor Gilgeous-Alexander until they are able to find a trade partner for the future Hall of Famer. The Miami Heat have been rumored to be interested in acquiring Paul.

This past season with the Rockets, Paul averaged 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists in 58 games. He shot 41.9 percent from the field, 35.8 percent from beyond the arc and 86.2 percent from the free-throw line. Paul and Rockets star James Harden didn't get along. At his age, Paul wants to be on a contending team and the Thunder don't fit that bill.
