Chris Paul was traded to an Oklahoma City Thunder team that appears to be in a rebuild phase, but he knows his situation could be a lot worse.

Paul joined the Thunder this offseason as part of a trade with the Rockets — the same deal that sent Russell Westbrook to Houston. Now, for the first time in his career, Paul is playing away from his wife and family, who are now living in Los Angeles. Knowing this fact, the Thunder have allowed the former Wake Forest standout several visits to see his family, including one on Thanksgiving.

“I know it can be a lot worse,” Paul said, via The Undefeated, “and other people are dealing with stuff like that. But that’s never been my normal. Me and my wife talked and we thought being in L.A. would give [the kids] some type of stability.

“I am very blessed and fortunate,” Paul added. “They come when they can. My parents are always there. My brother [C.J.] is at every home game. The team has been amazing and accommodating so I can see my family. I go as much as I can.”

The Thunder are currently holding an 8-11 overall record, which is 4th in the Northwest Division. Some experts believe Paul could be traded at some point during this season, but the nine-time All-Star is staying focused on the task at hand.

“I try to control what I can control,” Paul said, via The Undefeated. “And for me, that is preparing to play every night. Doing my workout. Doing my training. Hooping.”

Trading Paul would be a tall order for the Thunder, as his contract is quite hefty. He's slated to earn $38.5 million this season, $41.3 million next season and $44.2 million during the 2021-22 season.

Paul and the Thunder will be back in action on Wednesday night, when they'll serve as hosts to the Indiana Pacers. Tip-off inside Chesapeake Energy Arena is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
