Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Billy Donovan says veteran forward Danilo Gallinari will miss the Thunder’s road trip to Charlotte and Toronto as a precaution.

Gallinari is dealing with a left ankle injury. He didn't play on Dec. 22 against the Los Angeles Clippers and won't play on Thursday versus the Memphis Grizzlies:

The Thunder are 15-14 on the season. They are in the seventh spot in the Western Conference standings.

In 27 games this season for the Thunder, Gallinari is averaging 18.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He's shooting 43.2 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from beyond the arc and 90.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The Thunder are 13-14 with Gallinari in the lineup. Gallinari becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer. He’s making $22,615,559 this season with the Thunder.

A report from The Ringer said the Portland Trail Blazers have interest in Gallinari despite making Carmelo Anthony’s contract guaranteed for the rest of the season. We’ll see what happens with Gallinari moving forward. It seems like OKC is trying to shock the NBA world and make the playoffs. Most pundits thought the Thunder would struggle this season with the departures of Russell Westbrook and Paul George.

If the Thunder do fall out of the playoff mix out West and don’t trade Gallinari before the February trade deadline, the franchise will look to sign-and-trade him in July, according to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.
