The Oklahoma City Thunder decided not to pick up their fourth-year option on forward Josh Huestis. But instead of taking the move as a personal slight, Huestis remains invested in the organization and hopes he can still be a part of it past this season.

Huestis, who was drafted in the first round by the Thunder, back in 2014, has played in all seven games for Oklahoma City this season. That already matches his total number of regular-season appearances in his first three years with the team, as he’s featured more frequently in the G League.

He’s currently averaging 1.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 11.7 minutes per game throughout the start of the season.

However, Huestis’ days of getting consistent playing time could be numbered. He played just six minutes in the Thunder’s recent blowout win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Meanwhile, free-agent pickup Patrick Patterson played a season-high 24 minutes as he slowly works himself back into shape after a knee injury.

If Huestis does lose a good chunk of his minutes to Patterson moving forward, his chances of proving his worth to the Thunder, but more importantly to other teams, will take a sizable hit as he enters unrestricted free agency next year.
