Markieff Morris told local reporters on Thursday he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder because the franchise did a great job of recruiting him.

Morris signed with the Thunder a week after getting waived by the New Orleans Pelicans. The veteran swingman began the season with the Washington Wizards, but was traded to New Orleans at the February trade deadline.

Markieff Morris met with a neck specialist in Los Angeles last week and the doctor cleared him to resume basketball activities. Morris hasn't played in an NBA game since Dec. 26.

With the Wizards, Morris averaged 11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 43.6 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 78.1 percent from the free-throw line.

The 29-year-old can score off the dribble, in the post, and from the 3-point line, giving OKC another versatile scorer alongside stars Russell Westbrook and Paul George.

Morris was reportedly receiving interest from other playoff teams as well. The Thunder are 37-20 on the season, good for third place in the Western Conference standings, so it looks like Markieff made the right choice.

OKC opens up the second half of the season on Friday against the Utah Jazz at home.

Morris will likely play and get a huge ovation from the Thunder crowd when he checks in for the first time.
