Maybe Oklahoma City Thunder forward Paul George is not a big college football fan. After the Thunder beat the L.A. Clippers 127-117 at Staples Center on Thursday, George went to the dugout but was met with fans eager to greet the swingman. Among those fans was Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield, who got to shake George’s hands, though George seemingly did not recognize who Mayfield was.

Well, Paul George did, but it was a lot later when he realized that it was the brash signal-caller whom he briefly met on his way out of the court.

When George was informed that it was the Heisman Trophy winner, the Thunder star took to Twitter to apologize to Mayfield.

It’s a good thing that Baker Mayfield did not take any offense.

Mayfield found some time to watch the game live since the Sooners just played in Pasadena against the Georgia Bulldogs last Monday. Unfortunately for Mayfield and his team, they lost to Georgia in the Rose Bowl in double overtime, 54-48, thus losing a chance to play in the National Championship Game.

Against the Bulldogs, Baker Mayfield threw for 287 yards on 23-of-35 completions with two touchdowns and an interception. As for George, he scored 31 points on an impressive 12-of-16 shooting from the floor in the Clippers game.

It’s too early to speculate, but it would be cool to see both Paul George and Baker Mayfield play for the same city/state again in the near future. The L.A. Chargers are in need of a new quarterback in anticipation of the post-Philip Rivers era, so they could draft Mayfield if he is still available when it’s their turn to pick. George, meanwhile, has been incessantly rumored to be headed to Tinseltown once he becomes a free agent.
