After one season, the Oklahoma City Thunder's Big Three of Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony has been separated. OKC opted to trade away Carmelo Anthony and acquire Dennis Schroder nearly one month after re-signing Paul George to a long-term deal.

After the season Anthony had with the Thunder, it was almost a foregone conclusion that he would be traded, waived, or bought out before the start of the following season. Re-signing George only further meant that Anthony would not be on the roster with the Thunder competing for a title, and so a deal was made as soon as all parties were satisfied.

With Anthony out of the picture, George was able to collect his thoughts and express his true feelings on playing alongside the 10-time NBA All-Star. Via Michael Lee of Yahoo Sports:

“As much as I loved playing with Melo and having Melo alongside us, I understand the decision of both sides,” George said. “It just didn’t work. It didn’t work.”

In his lone season with the Thunder, Anthony averaged just 16.2 points (career-low), 5.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists (career-low) per game on just 40.4 percent shooting (also a career-low).

Anthony is now likely headed to the Rockets, where he'll have another opportunity to success alongside James Harden and Chris Paul. Meanwhile, the Thunder are looking like a solid team having added another ball-handler in Schroder to their second unit.
