Paul George was one of the biggest fishes in the offseason. Many believed that George will most likely join the Los Angeles Lakers or some other team, catching many off-guard when he stayed with the Oklahoma City Thunder. But George knew that he wanted to stay with the Thunder all this time.

George told Chris “Drama” Pfaff that he felt so comfortable with his Thunder teammates last season. Despite the subpar season, he wanted to give the team another shot:

George sealed a four-year, $137 million max contract with the Thunder this offseason. Though rumors revealed that the Lakers are trying to lure him in, George reportedly did not have any other free-agency meetings.

George played in 79 games last season. The 28-year-old averaged 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and two steals in 36.6 minutes per game.

His decision to stay was met by criticism. Analysts believe that while the Thunder are one of the most exciting teams out West, they do not have a real shot at being a title contender.

Despite this, George explained in full why he chose the Thunder. In his three-part ESPN special entitled My Journey, George said that it's more than just loyalty.

“It’s more than just loyalty, it’s about doing what I think is right. I feel this is the best and perfect opportunity to cement myself and bring a championship where it hasn’t been brought. They’ve welcomed me with open arms, and I want them to feel that hype that I have toward what I think we can accomplish there.
