After rumors surfaced that Oklahoma City Thunder star Paul George was hosting a party for the Oklahoma GOP at his house, some fans were not too happy.

At first, it appeared that George was helping to host the event. He was listed on the invitation and the organizers promoted the event as taking place “in the beautiful showcase home of Thunder player Paul George in Gallardia in Oklahoma City.”

Of course, this caused many to believe that George was either taking part in the event or helped set it up in some way. This didn't turn out to be the case.

Pam Pollard, chair of the Oklahoma Republican Party told Justin Wingerter of The Oklahoman:

“From what I understand, he actually leases his house. This is his seasonal home. We are renting it from the person that he actually leases it from.”

This makes much more sense. At a time where the NBA is rallying behind LeBron James against President Trump, it felt like odd timing for the Thunder star to work with the GOP.

Of course, George and all NBA players are free to associate with whatever political party they choose, but the timing of everything seemed to be a little off.

Instead, this feels like a situation where the Oklahoma GOP wanted to entice people to come to their event so they used George to help promote the event. It's unclear whether or not he even knew this event was taking place in his home.
