A rival NBA exec says the Oklahoma City Thunder's asking price for center Steven Adams this summer was “too high,” according to Sean Deveney of Heavy.

After trading Paul George to the Los Angeles Clippers and Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets, the Thunder were open to moving Adams and the $53,370,787 he's owed over the next two years.

OKC, though, was unable to find a trade partner.

Sources told Heavy.com that the Thunder are seeking a draft pick, a young player and salary relief for Adams.

“They set the price too high,” one league executive said. “That’s what you’d expect and maybe it will drop as the year goes on. It’s tough to take on his contract (two years, $53 million remaining) and give up picks and players. Most teams are pretty well set at the center spot now, you have a big guy and you have your small lineup. You can’t just take on a contract like that. There isn’t a big number of teams who could take him.”

Last season for the Thunder, Steven Adams averaged 13.9 points and 9.5 rebounds in 80 games. He shot 59.5 percent from the field and recorded 29 double-doubles.

Adams said at the Thunder's media day hearing his name in trade rumors was tough.
