When you're a fierce competitor like Oklahoma City Thunder star point guard Russell Westbrook, sitting on the bench and watching your team play against the defending champion Golden State Warriors on opening night has to be the worst feeling in the world.

Westbrook is still recovering from his offseason knee surgery, so he wasn't able to play Tuesday night. So how did the 2017 MVP lift his spirits and avoid boredom? He did what anyone else would do in that situation: Sneak some snacks onto the bench and eat them in a sly manner.

NBA games are long, and they feel even longer for the players who are sitting on the bench. Russell Westbrook was just hungry and wanted to fill his stomach to pass the time. It was the facial expression he showed while eating the snack, though, that made NBA Twitter laugh.

Russell Westbrook underwent surgery on his right knee on Sept. 12 and is still not doing full contact, according to Thunder head coach Billy Donovan. As of now, Westbrook is only able to do “controlled contact.” The explosive guard has averaged a triple-double for two seasons in a row.

Westbrook’s surgery in September was the fourth procedure the explosive guard has had on his right knee following a collision with guard Patrick Beverley in the 2013 playoffs which resulted in a meniscus tear. Westbrook underwent three surgeries on the knee in a nine-month span. However, it had been four and a half years since any surgery was performed on Westbrook’s knee prior to the September procedure.

The Thunder will start Dennis Schroder at the point guard spot until Westbrook returns.
