According to a report from ESPN's Royce Young, Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday morning after feeling a bit of stiffness over the last week.

As Young notes in his tweet, Westbrook's procedure seems to be preemptive in nature, and it is unclear how long he'll need to recover. He is to be re-evaluated in four weeks. However, this leaves his status for the preseason in question.

Russell Westbrook, now 29 years of age has played a huge role in Oklahoma City's recent success. The former UCLA stand-out made 80 appearances with the Thunder last season, racking up averages of 25.4 points on 44.9 percent shooting from the field (29.8 percent from beyond the arc), a career-high 10.3 assists, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.8 steals in 36.4 minutes per outing.

Westbrook, who is beginning a five-year, $205 million extension this season, has dealt with knee issues in the past. In fact, the seven-time All-Star had surgery on the same knee in 2013 to repair a torn meniscus.

If the Thunder are seeking another playoff appearance, they'll need Westbrook's services. Let's hope he can recover in time to suit up for the preseason.

But, again, it is worth noting that, by all accounts, Russell Westbrook should be fine.
