It's likely a testament to how brilliant of a player that he has turned himself into that Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook and Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson are becoming names inextricably linked across NBA history. Following Sunday's loss to the Dallas Mavericks, in which Westbrook recorded his 700th assist of the season, Westbrook matched more Robertson history, notching 700 rebounds and 700 assists for the third straight year, tying Robertson for the all-time record of consecutive years having pulled off that feat.

It's also likely a testament to how strong individual performances have gotten around the league that Westbrook is on track to record a triple-double for an entire season for the third straight year and he's likely not even the leading MVP candidate on his own team.

As for the assists, Westbrook leads the league with 706 through play Sunday, having accumulated that number despite missing nine games this year. His 10.4 dimes dished out per game are right in line with where he has sat each of the past four years, on track to lead the league for the second consecutive season.

In addition to his passing prowess, he is also on pace to set a new career best in rebounds per game (11.0), 11th overall in the league and far and away the top rebounding guard in the game. At age 30, Westbrook appears to be simply adjusting his game as he gets older, having seen his scoring average decrease, while the help around him increases. He shirks stats when asked, but he'll be taking his aim at history next year, jockeying with Robertson for more records.
