Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot is far from being a household name. A casual NBA fan might not even recognize who he is, but for the 23-year-old forward, he’s looking forward to having a bigger impact on his team when he starts a new chapter in his basketball career with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Luwawu-Cabarrot was shipped by the Philadelphia 76ers to the Thunder late last month in a three-team trade that also involved the Atlanta Hawks. It’s a welcome development for Luwawu-Cabarrot, who did not see much of the floor during his first two seasons in the league he both spent with the Sixers. In his first year in the NBA, he averaged 17.2 minutes per game. That got reduced to 15.5 per contest the following year with Robert Covington and Dario Saric eating up most of the playing time for the forward slots.

The Frenchman isn’t going to start either in Oklahoma City since there’s no way he’ll overtake Paul George for that slot, but Luwawu-Cabarrot is positive that he’s going to get a more significant role in Oklahoma City, per Brett Dawson of The Oklahoman.

He admitted that getting comfortable off the bench is “something I can improve on” with the Thunder, but he hopes to carve out a consistent rotation role regardless.

In two seasons with the Sixers, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot averaged just 6.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists across 121 games with only 26 starts. The Thunder offer a new opportunity for him, and while he’s not going to be a regular starter anytime soon, at least he gets to play alongside Paul George, who he admitted as the player he looks up to.
