Oklahoma City Thunder forward Carmelo Anthony has lost some of his explosiveness and athleticism now that he is 33. One thing that remains the same for Anthony though is his feathery touch from the perimeter — the same silky smooth shot he used Thursday to get past Patrick Ewing in the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Anthony entered the ball game with 24,807 points or just eight points fewer than the former New York Knicks big man’s career points total of 24,815. The basket that surpassed Ewing’s mark did not come easy for Anthony, as L.A. Clippers forward Blake Griffin was all over the former third-overall pick.

Carmelo Anthony even needed a difficult step-back baseline jumper just to get a look at the rim, which was all he needed to bury a shot and reach a new career milestone.

Patrick Ewing is likely not the only legend Anthony will get past by on the all-time scoring list as this season goes on. Jerry West is at No. 20 with 25,192 markers. Meanwhile, Reggie Miller sits at No. 19 with 25,729 points to his career. By next season, Anthony could move past Kevin Garnett who is at No. 17 with 26,071 points.

Carmelo Anthony finished the Clippers game with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field with three 3-pointers while adding four rebounds and two assists in a 127-117 road win.

Anthony, who is third on the Thunder in scoring with 17.6 points per game on 41.7 field goal shooting percentage, will look to add more to his points total on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns.

He seems to have finally figured it out, indeed.
