The Oklahoma City Thunder’s 2017-18 season crashed and burned Friday night in Salt Lake City, as they were eliminated from title contention after losing in Game 6 of their series with the Utah Jazz, 96-91. The ending to the game was particularly brutal to Paul George, as the game’s official appeared to have failed to blow their whistles on an apparent foul on Jazz center Rudy Gobert, who made contact with George as the Thunder swingman tried to jack up a 3-pointer.

Coming off a timeout and with only 24.7 seconds remaining in regulation, the Thunder were looking for a 3-pointer to tie the game. After receiving the ball from Steven Adams, George found himself in a one-one-one situation against Gobert. In an attempt to shake Gobert off, George put up a pump fake that Gobert immediately bought. Gobert clearly hit George on that play, but no whistle was blown, taking away an opportunity from George to try to tie the game from the foul line.

In any case, it’s undeniable that George was absolutely horrid on offense in that game. He shot just 2-for-16 from the field and 0-for-6 from behind the arc to finish with a mere total of five points. The fact that George played the part of the hero for the Thunder in Game 5 by scoring 34 points only makes his Game 5 dud more painful for Oklahoma City and its supporters.

As for the Jazz, they will move on to the Western Conference semifinals, where they will be facing off with the Houston Rockets.
