On paper, the Oklahoma City Thunder were expected to win easily against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, as they are only in 13th place in the Eastern Conference. However, the visiting team played very well on the night, and even had a chance to win the game, leading by a point with less than seven seconds remaining.

Understanding the situation his team was in though, Russell Westbrook took matters in his own hands.

After receiving the ball off an inbounds pass, the reigning MVP drove strong to the basket and finished on a difficult layup where he needed to double-clutch it. That proved to be the game-winner as the Nets failed to convert a basket on the ensuing play.

Westbrook had another monster night as he finished with 32 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals. He had a lot of support from Paul George who chipped in 28 points and nine rebounds of his own to help the Thunder improve their record to 26-20 for the season and stay in fifth place in the Western Conference. The Nets on the other hand were led by Joe Harris’ 19 points and DeMarre Caroll and Spencer Dinwiddie’s 13 points each.

Once again Westbrook has shown that he can will his team to victory even with the defense focused on him. His performance on the night also sends a strong message to the rest of the competition that the Thunder will be a very difficult team to beat, especially in the playoffs, as long as he's healthy.
