The Detroit Tigers have been rebuilding for the last half-decade, but they made some strides last season by going 77-85. While that's not all that impressive, this was just two years removed from a whopping 114 losses in 2019. Detroit has some money to play with this offseason and could look to make a big splash in free agency.

According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Tigers have talked with the agents of all the top shortstops on the market. This includes Carlos Correa, Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, Trevor Story, Javier Baez and Chris Taylor.

The question is just how much cash Detroit is willing to shell out for a top-of-the-line shortstop in free agency. Are the Tigers comfortable shelling out a $250 million contract? That's apparently uncertain, but the franchise is casting a wide net in an attempt to improve the roster and make some noise in the AL Central in 2022.

We know Correa is looking for a massive contract in that range and almost certainly won't be getting an offer like that from the Houston Astros. The Astros have made a few offers to Correa over the past year, but nothing close to a $250 million whopper. The other players are a bit lower on the totem pole than Correa, but they'll be looking for big deals in their own right.

It will be interesting to see what approach The Tigers take here in free agency. They have some money to spend, but we'll see just how high they'll go.
