It had been reported earlier this month that Andrew Wiggins was nearing an agreement on a five-year, $148 million extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In light of that, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN is reporting that Wiggins has decided to part ways with his agent prior to inking his new lucrative deal.

After agent Bill Duffy negotiated a five-year, $148 million maximum contract extension for forward Andrew Wiggins with the Minnesota Timberwolves, it is unclear how quickly Wiggins will sign the deal after he filed papers to sever ties with his representation at BDA Sports.

“We are disappointed that Andrew made this decision, especially after a three-year partnership where we worked closely with Andrew and his entire family,” Duffy told ESPN. “Unfortunately, tampering is a common problem in our industry, and that's part of the reason why I've already been in contact with the NBPA to discuss my rights in this matter. Obviously, whenever Andrew signs the max extension that we negotiated with Minnesota, we will work with the NBPA to make sure that our interests are protected.”

Duffy had been working on Wiggins' behalf to hammer out a new extension ahead of the 2017-18 season. The 22-year-old will be the first player from the 2014 NBA Draft class to agree on his rookie extension, which he has until late October to get it finalized.
Wiggins would be set to enter the final year of his rookie contract that is worth $7.5 million that also includes a $9.8 million qualifying offer that would have made him a restricted free agent next offseason.

Duffy has been one of the NBA's most prominent agents over the past two decades, representing present and future Hall of Famers Yao Ming and Steve Nash. Some of the current players include Joakim Noah, Zach LaVine, Jahlil Okafor, Kelly Oubre Jr., and Rajon Rondo.
