The future of the Minnesota Timberwolves became questionable after Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore purchased the franchise to become majority owners. The two have roots to New York but find themselves in Minnesota, making some believe a potential move was in the works for the organization.

However, according to the Athletic, A-Rod and Lore have different plans in store for the Timberwolves. After watching and listening to Kevin Garnett deliver a speech. He mentioned how appreciative he was of the city and the organization as a whole. During the speech, Garnett went as far as to, “pledge to rebuild the city of Minneapolis.”

That speech may have been the deciding factor for Rodriguez and Lore to keep the Timberwolves in Minnesota. “Kevin Garnett was giving this wonderful speech and we looked at each other and said, ‘Can you believe this?' We're two kids from New York who started at the bottom and now we're part of this group,” Rodriguez told The Athletic.

With that, it sounds like the Timberwolves will remain in Minnesota for the long run. Garnett's speech was enough to convince the new ownership to keep the franchise right where it's at. Marc Lore expressed his thoughts on the Timberwolves, stating, “We can't wait to immerse ourselves in the community. It's a great town. We couldn't be more excited,” per Jon Krawczynski.

The current state of the Timberwolves roster is a bit concerning. They have an incredibly young roster that lacks experience. However, there is some great talent on the team, giving the Timberwolves some potential to become a playoff contender once again. The Timberwolves have only made the playoffs once since 2005, the last time being in 2018 where they were eliminated in the first round.

It's been a while since we've seen a great Minnesota team take the court, but perhaps the new ownership can fix that. Alex Rodriguez is a popular name amongst the sporting world and could bring in some top free agents in the future. We'll see how it plays out, as a new era for the Timberwolves has just begun.
