Andrew Wiggins is enjoying a bounce-back season after being the center of criticism for the past two years. The Minnesota Timberwolves star admitted that as much as he hoped to ignore it, the criticism was always there for him to hear it:

“You hear it, on social media, when you turn on the TV and watch sports, you always see certain stuff; certain people say certain things,” said Wiggins, noting he did his best to remain positive and tune out the noise, according to Yaron Weitzman of Bleacher Report. “It never really got to me to the point where, you know, it messed up my lifestyle, my life. I love myself more than anyone loves me.”

Wiggins admitted there have been times, especially last year, when the criticism got the best of him:

“I'd go through a slump, and then you can't help but hear it, and then you're like, ‘F**k,'” he said. “You always want to shut the people up that doubt you.”

The 24-year-old is averaging career highs almost across the board, putting up 24.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. He's shooting a career-best 46.2% from the field, an improved 34.3% from deep, and has returned to over 70% at the foul line — all welcome signs for a Wolves team that hoped their five-year, $147 million investment wasn't all for naught.

The Wolves are 10-9 this season and seventh in the Western Conference, hoping Wiggins and cornerstone Karl-Anthony Towns can help them fight for a place in the playoffs.
