Ja Morant shocked the entire Minnesota Timberwolves fanbase on Tuesday night after he scored the game-winning lay-up in Game 5 of this first-round series. The Memphis Grizzlies superstar had a clear path to the basket after Anthony Edwards failed to execute his attempted steal on the crucial play.

After the game, the Timberwolves' young star was quick to accept the blame for his error. Edwards admitted that this was not the smartest decision from him.

“I had already had my mind made up that I was going to try to steal it. Dumb mistake,” Edwards said, via Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. “It's over though. Can't do nothing about it.”

Here's a look at the play in question as the Timberwolves watched Morant single-handedly score the victory for the Grizzlies:

Edwards was already behind Morant during the inbound play. The Timberwolves stud then attempted to tap the ball away which gave Morant just enough time to pivot away and head to the hoop. It would have been an epic defensive play from Edwards but it clearly backfired on him this time around. Be that as it may, the fact that Edwards was assigned to defend Morant on this play speaks volumes of how much trust the Timberwolves have in him on the defensive end.
