The Minnesota Timberwolves may have lost to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, but it isn't without any positive. After all, Anthony Edwards showed in the game why he's the present and the future of the franchise.

Edwards exploded for 48 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Even more amazing, he did it efficiently on 16-of-27 shooting–including 7-of-13 from beyond the arc. It would have been awesome had the Timberwolves won, but the loss certainly doesn't make the performance any less great.

For what it's worth, Ant Man set several records with his huge performance. According to Stat Muse, he is now the third-youngest player to have a 45-5-5 game, joining Brandon Jennings and LeBron James. Edwards is also now the fifth-youngest player to score at least 45 points in a game.

Even better, the Timberwolves' second-year guard is nearing the young-gun 40-point records of LeBron, Kevin Durant and Luka Doncic. He now has three 40-point games before turning 21, just one behind Doncic and Durant and 5 below James–undoubtedly a great company to be part of.

Edwards is only 20 years old and will only turn 21 in august 2022, so he still has several chances to break James' record.

While Anthony Edwards lost the Rookie of the Year award to LaMelo Ball last season, it definitely looks like he has more than catch up with regards to rising to star status.

The Timberwolves are struggling, but it has given Edwards the opportunity to grow and develop his confidence further. Hopefully, though, he becomes the savior the Minnesota franchise has been waiting for years.
