The sporting world lost a legend on Tuesday when Pro Football Hall of Famer John Madden passed away at the age of 85. Tributes came pouring in for the NFL icon and for his part, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards made sure that he too would honor the fallen legend.

Edwards, however, took a bit of a different approach. Instead of paying homage to John Madden by coming out with a heartfelt eulogy on social media or perhaps dedicating his next game for the former Oakland Raiders coach, the Timberwolves youngster decided to honor Madden in the most Anthony Edwards way possible (h/t Bleacher Report on Twitter):

“Yeah, I know, it was sickening, man,” Edwards said. “‘Cause I was playing Madden when I heard the news so you know I had to beat somebody by like 30, 40 points to show my respect.”

According to Ant, he decided to beat down his opponent by a massive margin as a way to honor the NFL legend. That's probably the most savage tribute we've heard so far and I can only imagine how it would have felt to be on the receiving end of a ruthless blowout courtesy of Anthony Edwards.

Knowing the Timberwolves guard, however, I would bet my money on the fact that Edwards was speaking the truth here. After all, he was very confident in stating that he's the “best basketball Madden player in the world, for sure.” I believe him.
