The Minnesota Timberwolves bowed out to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, 112-103. Anthony Edwards did not have the best of games for the Wolves, and it resulted in the highly-touted rookie being benched in the fourth period.

After the game, Edwards admitted that he was not happy with Timberwolves coach Chris Finch's decision to keep him on the bench for the team's fourth-quarter run (h/t Chris Hine of Star Tribune):

Edwards still managed 32 minutes of action, though, finishing with 16 points on 16 shots, to go along with two boards, three assists, and two triples. It wasn't his best performance of what has been an outstanding debut season, but this did not prevent him from wanting to be out there with his team down the stretch. If anything, this probably motivated him even more.

Edwards is just 19 and it's not always going to be a smooth ride for him. Growing pains are expected along the way, and this is probably one of those instances that will only make him better as a player. No need to try and build a feud narrative between Edwards and coach Finch, as this is something that they will likely chalk off as an off night for the Timberwolves' prized rookie.

Right now, Edwards might just have a shot at winning the coveted Rookie of the Year award. It's a bit late in the season, and he will need to catch up on a considerable margin, but the season-ending injury of Rookie of the Year frontrunner LaMelo Ball might have just busted the ROY race wide open.
