The Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, and the city of Chicago is getting ready for the return of its favorite son, Derrick Rose.

Derrick Rose grew up in Englewood and played the first eight years of his NBA career with the Bulls. The former league MVP is arguably the best high school player in Chicago history. D-Rose was named Illinois Mr. Basketball in 2007 and won back-to-back Public League championships his junior and senior year at Simeon Career Academy.

Along with becoming the youngest MVP in NBA history with the Bulls in 2011, Rose has done a lot of charity work in his hometown. The 30-year-old Rose donated $1 million to After School Matters back in 2014.

Rose has also paid for multiple funerals in Chicago, so his connection with the Windy City is bigger than basketball.

Rose is having a spectacular season with the Timberwolves this year. The former No. 1 overall pick is averaging 18.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game for Minnesota while shooting 48.5 percent from the field, 46.9 percent from beyond the arc and 84.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Rose is dealing with a sore left ankle, but he should be able to play on Wednesday since he practiced with the team on Monday. This will be the second time Rose will play at the United Center as a visitor. He made his first return as a member of the New York Knicks back in 2016 and finished with 15 points and 11 assists.
