D'Angelo Russell hasn't even played a game with the Minnesota Timberwolves and yet the All-Star guard already feels at home in Minnesota.

The Timberwolves (finally) acquired Russell from the Golden State Warriors on Thursday. The lefty was all smiles while speaking to reporters on Friday at his introductory news conference:

“You go through things like this and not realize how surreal it is,” Russell said, via Chris Hine of the Star Tribune.

“Once I got off the plane, I felt the love. It felt like home right way. Just gave me that home feeling.”

Russell is the type of All-Star player Karl-Anthony Towns was hoping Gersson Rosas would deliver to him. Rosas came through in a big way, even if it meant the Timberwolves had to part ways with Robert Covington and Andrew Wiggins.

D'Lo is averaging 23.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.2 assists on the season. He’s shooting 43.0 percent from the field, 37.4 percent from beyond the arc and 78.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Interestingly, it has been reported that Russell had an agreement with the Warriors before getting on a helicopter with the Timberwolves contingent this past offseason. That made for “an awkward goodbye on the tarmac,” one source told Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

However, none of that stopped the Timberwolves. They knew they needed to get D'Angelo Russell to Minnesota no matter what, especially as Karl-Anthony Towns’ level of frustration has been growing day by day.

Minnesota has lost 13 straight games. Now, many are calling Thursday the Timberwolves’ first win in months.
