Minnesota Timberwolves point guard D'Angelo Russell was recently a guest on New Orleans Pelicans shooting guard JJ Redick's podcast, and he was asked about the possibility of playing with LaMelo Ball in the Timberwolves' backcourt next season.

The Timberwolves have the No. 1 pick in the 2020 draft. Although the franchise has been heavily linked to Georgia guard Anthony Edwards, Minnesota could also draft Ball, the younger brother of Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball.

Here's what Russell had to say about the Timberwolves possibly drafting LaMelo, via Ben Beecken of FanSided's Dunking With Wolves:

“I wouldn’t mind it, honestly, if – if that’s what it was and that’s what they see in the future…man, I’ve been in so many situations, I’d just attack it like any other.”

LaMelo Ball played in 12 games in the NBL before a foot injury forced him to end his season early. He averaged 17.0 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game.

The Timberwolves are looking to build the franchise around Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns. They have only made the playoffs once since 2004, so the fans in Minnesota are desperate to watch a winning team again.

Russell finished the 2019-20 season with averages of 23.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists in 45 games with the Golden State Warriors and Timberwolves. Minnesota won only 19 games in 2019-20, so the front office has a lot of work to do.

Since star free agents likely won't sign with the Timberwolves, president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas will have to draft well and make some trades if he wants to acquire more talent around Russell and Towns.

With that being said, it's going to be interesting to see who the Timberwolves decide to take with the No. 1 pick.
