Current Minnesota Timberwolves guard Derrick Rose may not have ended up as the savior the Chicago Bulls needed, but he still remains an icon to many in Chicago — particularly to Jabari Parker.

The first overall pick of the 2008 NBA Draft seemed destined for greatness after being named Rookie of the Year, a three-time All-Star, and the youngest MVP in league history.

After countless injuries derailed his young career, Rose's playing time and impact on the court feels like it’s on its last breath. Unfortunately, it is a sad reality the former Bulls star must face. Despite that, he still remains one of the most influential players in the NBA.

Although unlucky in basketball, his luck and support never ran out when it came to his sneakers, the Drose line. Surprisingly, some of his biggest supporters aren’t even located domestically. In China, the superstardom of Derrick Rose just shines brighter than ever.

The Chinese have a special connection with Rose. Initially, his on-court play made them gravitate towards him, but his vulnerability, honesty, and never-give-up attitude made the Chinese love him even more.

Fellow Chicago native and newly signed Bull forward, Jabari Parker reiterated the sentiment. In an article by ESPN's Nick DePaula, he said:

“Derrick is a legend, no matter what… Everyone has an injury, either [in] athletics or normal life. Derrick is one of the best players to ever play the game and one of the best icons in Chicago. He accomplished his duty already.”

Rose replied:

“It's big to hear that compliment… To hear him say that and hear other people comment about it, it made me feel good.”

The success of his sneaker line and continued relationship with Adidas just goes to show how big the Timberwolves point guard is. It did not bode well for his career, but Rose as a man and as an inspiration has completely transcended boundaries that go even beyond basketball.
