The Minnesota Timberwolves announced earlier today that the team has officially signed point guard Derrick Rose for the remainder of the season. There was a decent amount of NBA fans who wondered why Rose wasn't signed for nearly a month after the Utah Jazz waived him following his trade acquisition from the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to a tweet on Thursday from senior writer Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, Rose was expecting the arrival of his child earlier this week and was in communication with Wolves head coach Tom Thibodeau about it.

“Thibs gave me time to get that situation taken care of and to come out here whenever I had time, so I respect him for that,” Rose said on Thursday while meeting with members of the media.

Despite a career that has recently been highlighted by injury after injury for the former NBA Most Valuable Player, Rose is determined to prove his worth during his reunion with former Chicago Bulls in coach Thibodeau, star shooting guard Jimmy Butler, and power forward Taj Gibson.

Via an article written today by Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune:

“I’m still here,” Rose said. “That shows everybody about my character and all that. I’m still here playing. I still love the game. I can sit here and tell you all this by expressing it with words, but I want to do it with action, by me going out there and playing the way I want to play and playing the way that’s going to help this team win.”

An underwhelming beginning to the 2017-18 season is not going to bother Rose and the 29-year-old guard is ready to contribute at a high level in Minnesota.

“I’m wholeheartedly invested, even though I just got here,” Rose said. “I just want to play and have the opportunity to show that I can still play.”

In just 16 games played this season for the Cavs, Rose averaged 9.8 points on 43.9 percent shooting from the field, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game in roughly 19.3 minutes of action per contest.
