Former New York Knicks and current Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Derrick Rose was “surprised” the franchise traded power forward Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks at the NBA trade deadline.

Rose spent one season on the Knicks back in 2016-17. The former MVP admits he didn't see the Porzingis or Carmelo Anthony trade coming. New York traded Anthony to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the summer of 2017.

“Same with Melo,” Rose said, via Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News. “Melo and KP. I think everybody was kind of surprised and devastated but, you know, this is a business before anything.”

Derrick Rose, Kristaps Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony formed a Big Three with the Knicks in 2016, but the team underwhelmed, finishing 31-51. Rose signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers after that season, while Melo was traded to the Thunder, ending the one year experiment in The Big Apple.

All three of those players are in different stages of their careers now. Anthony is out of the league at the moment, Porzingis is recovering from a torn ACL, and Rose is having a resurgence with the Timberwolves.

D-Rose returned to Madison Square Garden on Friday and finished with 20 points in 23 minutes to lead Minnesota to a 115-104 win.
