In light of the recent drama that surrounded the team, Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor has some regrets about acquiring Jimmy Butler from the Chicago Bulls in 2017. The Wolves' win-now mantra last year forced them to trade for Butler, but that hasn't turned out well for the team.

Jace Frederick of Twin Cities Pioneer Press sat down with Taylor as the latter talked about his perspectives on the recent deal that saw Minnesota ship Butler to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Knowing what he knows now, Taylor said he has regrets about making the trade with Chicago for Butler last summer. He noted that Butler played less than a season’s worth of games with Minnesota.

“I just never anticipated that this would play out like that,” the Timberwolves owner said. “To me, I thought we were helpful to him, because he said he wanted to get out of Chicago, so I thought we were helpful. We certainly gave Chicago some really good young players. (Butler) came here with expectations that he would help lead the team, not only with scoring, but with his experience that he would share with our young guys and we got behind that.”

The Wolves gave up Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the 7th pick of the 2017 Draft (Lauri Markannen) for the services of Butler. LaVine is now one of the best all-around players in the league, averaging 25.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the Bulls. Markkanen has All-Star potential written all over him and Dunn has been a steady playmaker.

Just imagine if LaVine was still with the Wolves and how Markkanen's outside game would mesh well with Karl-Anthony Towns. To be fair with Taylor, it's not just him who is disappointed with the Butler situation. Everyone is. Well, except for the Sixers and the Bulls.
