The whole basketball world is getting behind the return to glory narrative of Minnesota Timberwolves guard Derrick Rose. So much so, that even one of the best coaches in the game today, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, is absolutely delighted by the resurgence of the former MVP.

“I’m excited for him because he was one of the greatest players in the league,” said coach Pop via Michael C. Wright of ESPN. “He was fantastic. Then, all of the sudden, he was hurt. But he was a force; so strong at that position. He wasn’t the greatest shooter then. But he still got all kinds of stuff done, and he’s a tough kid.”

Popovich is by no means exaggerating here. For those who were not able to witness the pre-ACL Derrick Rose, he was an absolute beast. At 22, Rose was the youngest ever MVP winner — a feat that he accomplished in only his third season in the NBA.

Popovich went on to praise how Rose has evolved his game, now becoming one of the best perimeter shooters in the game.

“So now that he’s shooting like that, it’s probably a surprise for everybody because that’s not what he was known for,” Pop added. “But when you see somebody come like that after this many years, you’ve got to be thrilled for the guy. I’m thrilled for him. I think it’s fantastic.”

It is undeniable that Rose lost a step (or two) ever since he tore his ACL. However, his return to form this season has been simply remarkable. Everybody loves a Cinderella story, and Rose's tale is the absolute epitome of this.
