Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Jeff Teague has undergone left ankle surgery.

New York Times NBA reporter Marc Stein broke the news on Twitter on April 10.

The Timberwolves also made the announcement via a press release on their official website.

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced guard Jeff Teague underwent a successful debridement of his left ankle. The operation was performed yesterday by Dr. David Porter at the Methodist Sports Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Further updates as to Teague's progress will be issued when appropriate.

The Timberwolves struggled during the 2018-19 NBA season. Prior to their regular season finale against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, they had a 36-45 (.444) win-loss record.

Minnesota was a better team with Teague in the lineup: the Wolves were 23-19 with him and 10-21 without him this season, per The Star Tribune's Michael Rand.

The 30-year-old Teague can choose to exercise his player option for the 2019-20 NBA season. He is set to earn $19 million next year.

Teague figures to stay in Minnesota. Point guards Jerryd Bayless and Derrick Rose will become unrestricted free agents at the end of 2018-19. On the other hand, Tyus Jones will become a restricted free agent.

Teague, a 2015 NBA All-Star, has averaged 12.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists in his 10-year NBA career.
