According to the Minnesota Timberwolves PR account, Jimmy Butler will sit out their game against the Portland Trail Blazers while Derrick Rose will be probable after dealing with some ankle soreness.

A tweet from Bulls insider Sean Highkin also echoed the news

In their game against the Golden State Warriors, Derrick Rose left the game due to ankle soreness and only played five minutes off the bench. Rose was coming off a career high 50-point game against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday before the game against the Warriors. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse.

Rose has made it known that he wants to win the Sixth Man of the Year award. He has been plagued by injuries since becoming the youngest MVP ever in 2011. After those injuries, he was never the same player though he has played well since he arrived in Minnesota under coach Tom Thibodeau. Thibodeau coached Rose in Chicago during his MVP season. He is currently averaging 17.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists for the 4-5 Wolves.

On the other hand, Jimmy Butler remains as a big distraction for the team because of his trade request and antics. It’s been over six weeks since Butler first requested a trade, and there have been multiple developments during that span that could lead one to question whether Butler is being a negative influence on the Timberwolves’ young core of Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.

On Wednesday before facing the Utah Jazz, reports emerged that Jimmy Butler was contemplating taking some extended time off in an attempt to force the Timberwolves to move him. But that storyline was later debunked, with Butler clarifying that he was merely sitting to recover from nagging injuries. If Derrick Rose can go, it'll relieve a lot of pressure for Minnesota.
