The All NBA teams are not just a nice award for the players, it also means a lot in terms of how much money they can make in future contracts.

With Karl-Anthony Towns being named to the All-NBA 3rd team, Towns can now receive an extension up to $188 million this offseason.

The way the salary cap works, a player with 0-6 years of experience can make up to 25 percent of that season's salary cap. In 2011 the CBA added a new rule called the “Rose Rule” that allowed players to make more money for having really good performances.

One of the ways a player can make up to 30 percent of the salary cap before they hit their 7th year of experience is by making an All-NBA team. With Towns making the All-NBA 3rd team that allows Towns to make even more money with the extension.

It was reported that Towns and the Timberwolves, especially coach Tom Thibodeau aren't in the greatest place right now, but the Wolves have no interest in trading him.

In fact, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, ownership would get rid of Thibodeau before they traded Towns away.

“I think their owner would trade management/the coach before he would trade Karl-Anthony Towns. I don’t think they would allow that. I just don’t believe they’d allow that kind of decision. And I don’t know that they’d want to trade him… he’s Karl-Anthony Towns, they’re not moving him.”

If Towns wasn't to sign the extension with Minnesota he would be missing out on a lot of money, so it would be very shocking to see Towns not agree
