The Minnesota Timberwolves have had an offseason filled with turmoil, but it sounds like some positive might finally be coming for the team. According to Jon Krawczynski and Michael Scotto of  The Athletic, Karl Anthony-Towns and the Timberwolves are working towards a contract extension.

Towns is eligible for a five-year $188 million extension because he earned All-NBA honors this last season. The extension, if signed, would start in the 2019-20 season. Earlier this season there were rumors about Towns having issues with Tom Thibodeau, and thoughts were he might even request a trade, but that never came to fruition.

Just a few weeks ago Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Jimmy Butler had no intentions of signing an extension with the Wolves because he was frustrated with the work ethic of some of the other players, including Towns.

Thibodeau sidestepped the questions about Towns and Butler's relationship when asked by Nick Friedell of ESPN:

“We know how important both guys are to our team so we're just getting ready for next year.”

How accurate these other reports are about the friction inside of the locker room is hard to tell and will probably work itself out in the coming months. If Butler is going to be around more than one year is questionable but one thing is becoming more clear, Towns is going to.

With both sides wanting to get a deal done, don't expect this to take very long and it should be announced in a very short period of time.
