When Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns signed a five-year, $190 extension prior to the start of the 2018-19 NBA season, the organization made it clear that they were committing to their young superstar.

In a recent piece by Jon Krawczysnki of The AthleticTowns revealed his reasons for signing the extension when he did:

I just thought it was the right moment, right time, right place. I was in the right mood. Things fell into place,” Towns told The Athletic. “I had the ability to just get it done. I didn’t want it to be hovering over my head. … I just wanted to make the decision at the right moment and my time.

Towns did take a little longer than expected to put pen to paper, but he ultimately wound up deciding he wanted to commit to Minnesota.

Karl-Anthony Towns' contract situation and the Jimmy Butler saga made for some drama, but now that those things have been handled, KAT is feeling comfortable again:

“It’s good to have that comfort level where you already know where your future is at and where your journey and the steps you need to take will be taken,” he said. “I’ve always had a big belief to take as many stresses out of your life so I can focus on the game of basketball. I’m glad I have one big one out of the way with my contract.”

Karl-Anthony Towns has gotten back to business as the franchise centerpiece, and he has been putting up monster numbers this season. The 23-year-old was named an All-Star for the second consecutive season, posting 23.1 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.
