Karl-Anthony Towns is certainly in a good mood today after reportedly agreeing to a five-year $190 million super max contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves. One of the people who was overjoyed with Towns' extension was his Kentucky Wildcats coach John Calipari.

In an exchange on Twitter, Calipari said he just spoke with Towns on the phone and said that he was happy for his former Wildcat. Despite the massive show of love from Calipari, the 7-foot center found a way to poke fun at his former coach.

In his lone season in Kentucky, Towns, also widely known as KAT, averaged 10.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in just 21 minutes per game. Calipari had utilized a platoon system due to the plethora of talent that he had on his roster in the 2014-15 college season which limited the production of his players, as Towns jokingly alluded to.

Despite the seemingly lackluster numbers, this did not prevent NBA scouts from noticing Towns' undeniable talent and upside. He was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves as the first overall pick of the 2015 NBA draft, and eventually won top rookie honors for the season.

Since then, Towns has shown why he deserved to be the first pick in that class. In his first three seasons in the NBA, Towns has displayed great durability and has not missed a single game in his career. He also boasts of career averages of 21.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game thus far. He was also named to the All-NBA third team last season. Thus, this super max deal for Towns is legitimately warranted.

Despite the recent turmoil and drama surrounding teammate Jimmy Butler, Minnesota made it clear with this massive deal that Towns is the franchise piece they will be moving forward with.
