The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night by a final score of 114-107, and, after the game, Karl-Anthony Towns, rookie Anthony Edwards and guard Josh Okogie met with the family of George Floyd, the Black man who was killed by former police officer – and now convicted murderer – Derek Chauvin.

The Wolves provided the Floyd family with the team’s game ball from its win over the Sacramento Kings, which occurred on the day (April 20) that the guilty verdict for Chauvin came down.

Floyd was killed in Minneapolis, where the Wolves’ home arena is located, so both Floyd’s tragic killing and the verdict that followed meant a lot to the team and the organization at large.

Of course, while Chauvin was the one that actually committed the heinous act against Floyd, there are three other officers that were on the scene at Floyd’s death who will also face trial this summer. According to NPR, Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao are each charged with aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter.

The Wolves, and the city of Minneapolis, will await those verdicts over the coming months as well.

The T-Wolves are no longer the worst team in basketball, as they currently hold a better record (19-44, still not great) than both the Orlando Magic (18-43) and the team they just beat on Tuesday, the Houston Rockets (15-47).

For the bottom of the league, the tanking has begun in earnest, as the Magic, Rockets, Thunder and Pistons all “race to the bottom” to get a chance at drafting Cade Cunningham out of Oklahoma State.
