To be in the ESPN Body issue an athlete has to be very comfortable in his body and for Karl Anthony Towns that is something he is. Towns were always really tall and hit a growth spurt in eighth grade, for some that might be awkward, but for Towns, he treated it as his superpower.

“Around seventh, eighth grade, I had a growth spurt from, like, 6-4 to 6-8. Oh man, my knees were killing me. [Laughs.] A growth spurt is a challenge for a young child, especially to always be different than the other kids. For me, I just found that as my superpower. You know, it's something that made me different. That's what made me special. I'd always been really tall — and I just was very comfortable in my skin. I've never wanted to be short. Never wanted to be regular height. I always wanted to be myself. Now I'm 7 feet of sexy — a lot of it.”

Towns also wasn't always as lean as he is today, and at one point was actually on the chubby side. He said his faith helped him through that point because whatever God wanted him to be at that point he was okay with. He also said that once he started to learn more about nutrition that has helped him better understand his body. The biggest start with nutrition is getting enough water. He tries to intake half of his weight in water per day. He currently weighs 240 pounds so he has at least 120 ounces of water a day.
