The Minnesota Timberwolves recorded their third straight victory on Friday night since the Jimmy Butler trade. The Wolves destroyed the Portland Trail Blazers, 112-96, and it was thanks in large part to a total team effort that saw six guys scoring in double figures.

Karl-Anthony Towns had a highlight play in the third quarter that pretty much summed up the evening for the Blazers. Towns emphatically grabbed the ball mid-air from Blazers forward Jake Layman, who looked to have gotten more than he bargained for.

Layman went for the home-run play and tried to slam one home right in the face of Towns. Had it gone the other way, it would have been a highlight play for sure for the third-year Blazers man. Unfortunately for him, Towns had no intentions of being on the wrong end of Layman's highlight reel.

What made the block even more impressive is the fact that Towns ended up with the basketball after the denial. He did step out of bounds after the play, which actually may have worked in his favor, as the stop in play gave the entire arena a chance to savor the moment to its fullest.

Towns did not have the best of outings on Friday night by his own high standards, scoring only 14 points (6-15 FG, 0-0 FT), two 3-pointers, nine rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one unforgettable block in 34 minutes of action.

Nonetheless, he certainly won't mind the individual underachievement, as the Wolves made easy work of the Blazers, who themselves are currently 10-5 to start the new season.

It has been a wonderful week for the new-look Minnesota squad, and all signs are pointing up as they move on from the whole Butler debacle.
