Minnesota Timberwolves main man Karl-Anthony Towns only had 10 attempts in their loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, and none of those came in the fourth quarter.

Towns wasn’t able to hoist even a single shot in the final frame as they fell short against the Lakers, 112-104. After strong games since his return from a long layoff, he finished with paltry numbers of 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists against the defending champions.

After the game, he told reporters what happened wasn’t ideal, especially since he was having an efficient night, shooting 7-of-10 from the field in the first three quarters. But Towns added he also didn’t want to disrupt their flow. (via Timberwolves beat reporter Chris Hine).

“Obviously in the fourth quarter I would’ve liked to get a touch and try to help our team offensively. But it just wasn’t called for me. Ant (Anthony Edwards) was having it going. So, I just tried to do my best to space the floor for my guys, get them guys open.”

Timberwolves veteran point guard Ricky Rubio, meanwhile, took responsibility for KAT’s lack of touches in the fourth period.

Rubio and reserve guard Jordan McLaughlin even had more touches than Towns with 12 apiece. Edwards, who finished with a team-high 28 points, gobbled up the touches with 20 attempts, though he was pretty efficient all game long.

Towns averaged 14.6 shots in his previous three games since returning from his battle with COVID-19. With high-scoring guard D’Angelo Russell out for four to six weeks due to knee surgery, it’s only logical for the Timberwolves to give Karl-Anthony Towns more looks at the basket.
