Karl-Anthony Towns is eligible to sign a supermax contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves this offseason, and based on the latest remarks of new team president Tim Connelly, they have every intention of keeping him for a long time.

Speaking with the Star Tribune, Connelly–who joined the Timberwolves from the Denver Nuggets this offseason–shared his dream to see Towns to be a Minnesota lifer. While he didn't go into detail about Towns' contract situation, the new team exec heaped praise on the All-Star big man and his potential as he sees him being part of the future of the franchise.

“I hope he's here forever. I hope we have the type of team success that would allow us to look up and see Karl's jersey being hung up in the rafters,” Connelly said.

“I reached out to a bunch of these guys, but I don't want to force relationships. You have to develop those things naturally. So, I've heard so many great things about him. I know how great a player he is on the court, but off the court it's been so consistent, just an unbelievably sweet guy that treats everyone in a really classy manner.”

Tim Connelly also predicted big things for Karl-Anthony Towns, especially now that they can build some consistency with Chris Finch as head coach. The Timberwolves made the playoffs last season, and for the Minnesota president, things are only going to improve for KAT and the rest of the team.

“I think he's been through so much, so many different faces and different chairs, from the front office to the coaching staff. So I think with continuity with Finchy [coach Chris Finch], you're going to see a better version of Karl and he's already a great player. … I know he's good enough to win at a high-high level, and I know how much he cares about this city and this team, so I think that would be an unbelievably cool thing for Karl and this team that he only wears one jersey and we win a ton of games and we're old and fat and watch the jersey being hung in the rafters. I'm already old and fat, but older and fatter.”

Towns is expected to command a four-year contract extension worth $210.9 million. On top of the remaining two years of his deal, that means he could get a total of $280.7 million until 20217-28.

At just 26 years old, Towns is well on his way to reaching his prime. And sure enough, the Timberwolves would want to see him take that leap in Minnesota as they try to surround him with championship-caliber talent.
